Plen-Air Painting Trip
Starting the summer of 2025, ROSSCA invites you to spend a week immersing yourself in the world of beauty, history, and art in Northwest Bulgaria, nestled in the Danube Limes. The proceeds from each workshop are directed towards advancing ROSSCA’s vision. Participants will begin
their tour in the small village of Targovishte, where they will stay in a traditionally restored country home with stunning views at the foot of mount Bolvan. Over the next eight days, the painters will take four short trips to neighboring towns and back to visit local marketplaces, art, monasteries, and archeological museums, educating them on the history of the region as well as inspiring for their paintings. The days in between these trips will be used to explore and hike around the countryside – along the river in the bio-sphere park, up mount Bolvan to reach a breathtaking view of the Danube valley, through the Magura cave to behold pre-historic paintings, or to the red rock formations of Belgardchik. There will be no other thrills to the workshop; it is about breathing and living like and artist by painting unique landscapes.
Instruction and Materials
Two local artists will serve as guides and will provide demonstration and one-on-one help with individual works. All painting materials and equipment are provided, with each artist receiving their own set of oil paints, fine hog bristle brushes, tripod, prepared gesso boards, and cleaning materials. Umbrellas, chairs, and other technical things will be provided as well. Your stay also includes accommodation, food (breakfast, lunch, dinner), transportation within Bulgaria, and pick up/drop off from airport. All you need to bring is a straw hat!
